Congratulations to the Cooper Music Department

Congratulations to the Cooper Music Department for their success at the Heritage Music Festival in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  The band, the choir, and the orchestra all received ratings of SUPERIOR on their performance.  The Choir and the Orchestra received the Outstanding Choir and Orchestra awards, beating out all the High School groups at the festival.

Mrs. Steffens, Ms. Caldwell, and Mrs. Staley also each won the Adjudicator’s Award…given out by the judges to music educators who have Outstanding groups.  Only four teachers received these awards, and our music staff got three of them! ALSO, the music department won the Festival Sweepstakes award, determined by the music department at the festival accumulating the highest number of points toward a perfect score of 300!

A special congratulation goes out to Constance Chiu for receiving the Maestro Award for her beautiful cello playing. This award is given to students who display extraordinary musical ability and sensitivity.

We know that great music is about more than just winning, but it sure felt great to all these students. Congratulations on a job well done. We are proud of you and your hard work!

Fairfax Cares - Website to Help Fairfax Families in Need

fairfax-cares-logo-final-with-slogan-smallA new website resource has been launched for helping the growing number of families in our county who need emergency food and shelter. By going to FairfaxCares.org, you can donate food or money so that the many nonprofit and faith based social serving organizations in Fairfax County can better meet the dramatic increase in need.

Many of you helped your children do food and clothing drives during the holidays, but the food banks and housing assistance efforts are running short again.  In our schools alone, we now have over 1,400 homeless children.  Please take a minute to look at the FairfaxCares.org website. (The above information taken from a letter from Janie Strauss, County School Board Member to the Cooper PTA.)
